NeuroHead is a 2D Pixel-Art Side-Scrolling Action Game (say that three times fast in a row), set in a not all too far dystopian future, where you will infiltrate heavily guarded corporations, trying to end the manipulative games of a secretive order of wealthy and powerful tycoons, for which the rest of society bears the brunt. There is an emphasis on parkourhacking and stealth, but the game will include combat as well. It will be up to you, on how to approach the varied securities and dangers, posed in each level.

In NeuroHead, you will play as Willow, a young hacker and parkour runner,  who works under the guise of a shadowy counter organization. Willow has her own reasons for entering the fray, but her and your choices will ripple across the grid of entire nations, altering the way we know life, forever.

Development is currently in its early stages.

We are a team of two out of College Developers, based in Switzerland. NeuroHead is something we are currently working on in our spare time, since as of now, it is not sustainable (Sadface). But we are fueled by our passion to make a dark and visceral 2D game. We want NeuroHead to be that game, which provides as much player freedom as possible within the confines of our scope, while also being an immersive ride.

NeuroHead's Level Design is inspired by the holistic Design of the DISHONORED and HITMAN franchises, where the player starts off in one section of the level with objectives they need to locate, reach and complete, but without easily giving away the where and how.

Hacking and Stealth are two vital parts to the gameplay, which we have not touched upon yet. We want everything, which seems like it could be hacked, able to be hacked! There are many paths within the level you can take, but also those you can create. We want the combat to be harsh and deadly, if the player chooses not to plan ahead, 2+ enemies should be able to murder you with relative ease.  In order to overcome the challenges, we want you to connect the dots how you see fit, in ways we could never even imagine!

Currently, we are focusing a lot of our work on Willow, the main character. We want the movement and feedback to feel fluid and responsive, which will be an ongoing endeavor. Next up, we will be tinkering around with level design sections and basic AI and environment interactions, such as security cameras and turrets.

With the Alpha 0.1, we are fully honing in on Willow, the main protagonist and player character. We have put our time into movement, camera navigation, and visual appearances, with base feedback in place. Many of the features here are still rough, but should help get a sense of what we are going for!

As of right now we have a sand box to test Willow's base movement. We did implement a small mini game (accessible through the pause menu) with an obtainable objective, for the player to be able to have something to work towards to, and encourage learning the movement. The level design and art is mostly temporarily, but does highlight certain approaches, that we want to pursue down the line. The current build is still a bit wonky and has some weird behaviors, which will need ongoing fixing. As of right now, NeuroHead is only playable with Mouse and Keyboard, with potential controller support down the line.

Please let us know, based on testing the features in the NeuroHead Alpha, how they make you feel, as we look to keep improving and developing the experience.

Hi! I've noticed some issues with collisions that didn't allow me to see much of the game. There are many areas where Willow will get stuck to a wall or staircase. My guess is part of her collision area intersected the wall, and her character isn't allowed to move in any direction. I'm using Windows 11 if that's relevant.

This looks like a really cool game. Good luck!

Whoops, I misunderstood the issue. I think Willow will do a wall grab at locations where it doesn't make much sense, but it can be escaped with a press of the up arrow. However, this allows her to walk in what appears to be inside a wall, and I'm not sure that's the intent.

Hello I have one question is this a perfectly playable game ??

As of right now we are still in early Alpha and Development.

Very cool visuals and aesthetic. I like what the gameplay is aiming for, but personally I felt the movement was a bit clunky. One thing I would change is when you latch onto a ledge, if you are already holding up, it could automatically climb up the surface after like half a second or so of holding up, instead of having to lift your finger off the up key and press it again to climb up. Also, it seems like you can't latch onto a ledge if you are still holding forward from running and jumping, which also feels a bit weird to me, and if you keep holding forward, the character just kinda sticks to the wall but in the jumping animation. (Edit: I think it's actually because I wasn't hitting the wall on the right spot to latch onto it, but I was still getting stuck on a corner of the wall or something.) I hope this feedback helps!  I'll definitely keep an eye out on this game, and I'll look forward to your guys' progress. :)

Hey Nyophon. Thank you for your feedback and following, as well as apologize for the late reply!

We agree, latching onto a ledge when you hold up automatically is more fluid and less clunky, so we will fix that and give it a go. We do have quite a few of other clunky interactions still to fix in terms of getting the movement good, so we've took note the ones you listed!

The movement is super important to NeuroHead, so it's a big priority for us and gonna try and get it in a much better spot in our next build release!

Really good so far, the concept and gameplay are great! We can’t wait to see more, and we wish you both the best of luck with your dev journey! The style and sprites are incredible. All the best. Can’t wait to see the full thing.

Hey thank you for this cool and supportive comment!! I picked up Pixel Art, not all too long ago, so I look forward to improving my skills, but the feedback very much motivates me to continue.^^

We look forward to showing more down the line, especially working on things in the world, the player has to avoid or can interact with!

avast identified this exe as malware!

Thank you for informing us! We tried getting the exe into a zip file, but the game is somehow still identified as a malware. We are looking into the process of signing the exe, so it wont cause the anti virus program to act up.
